Viking Boat Lift in winter ice chopping

A boat lift in winter ice

The Viking Boat Lift is a surviving boat lift in winter ice. This winter we installed a lift an hour or so south of Ottawa. There was already 3-4 inches of ice on the lake.

Here is for you to see the pictures of the install. Our customer Mark was kind enough to share them with us.

The wooden dock parts are ready to be put on when the ice is gone. The lift can sit in the water although it drops up to 20 feet over winter.

How can the Viking Boat Lift survive ice?

All other boat lift and dock owners along this lake remove everything out of the water before the ice kicks in. So why don’t you have to remove the Viking Boat Lift?

The Viking Boat Lift only touches ice on the vertical column. This column is attached to a large structure that sits on the bottom free from any ice as you can see on the pictures. The weight of the boat lift also helps it to stand in place.

It means the Viking Boat Lift is very stable even when the ice moves during the winter.
